How come you only charge a fraction of what other web designer companies charge?
Two reasons: 1. We use our own pre-built templates, customised with your branding, to speed up development time (many web design companies do this anyway) 2. As part of the deal we get your ongoing web hosting business (many web design companies do this anyway but we factor this in and absorb some of the cost of building the website)
What am I getting for the money?
You get a professionally designed and developed website built on an easy to use content management system (CMS) which allows you to update and expand your website. For your ongoing hosting charges, you get your website hosted on fast reliable NZ based web server.
Should I choose ‘Basic’ or ‘Standard’ package?
The ‘Basic’ package is suitable if you are happy with a slightly simpler website and already have your written content and photos/images ready to go and do not need help editing your content. If you could use some help with editing your content, and/or would like some of the more advanced features, the ‘Standard’ package will be the best option.
What is website hosting and why do I need it?
Web hosting means renting space for your website on a special computer that is connected directly to the internet and operational 24/7 so that it can be accessed by anybody anywhere around the world at any time.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is the address of a website e.g. the domain name for this website is rapidwebsites.co.nz. You will need to register a domain name for your website or we can do it for you. Most domain names used by New Zealand companies end in .nz, .co.nz or .com. A .nz domain name shows that the website is New Zealand based and is ideal for companies primarily focused on the NZ market. A .com domain name is ideal for companies with more of an international focus.
Do you register domain names?
Yes, we can register domain names on your behalf. We create an account for you at a domain registrar and register your domain for a period of 1 year. The account details are provided to you and you are responsible for future domain renewals.
Can I host my website with a different hosting company?
Our low prices are factored on getting your ongoing hosting business so hosting with us is part of the deal. However you retain full ownership rights of your domain name, your content and the website we have created for you, so you are always free to move your website to another hosting company.
How much storage space and data transfer is provided with your hosting?
We provide an adequate amount storage space and data transfer for the vast majority of small business websites – up to 1GB storage and unlimited data transfer.
Can you set up email accounts for my domain name?
Yes, we can set up email accounts for your domain name. There are a few options for email addresses for your domain. We can set up email forwarding (to an existing email address that you already own) or a full email service with one or more mailboxes. We can discuss your needs and advise you on the best setup for your use case.
How do I update my website?
Your website comes with an easy to use content management system called WordPress. You log in to an administration area where you can update, expand and manage your website. We will provide you with an instruction manual that explains how to use WordPress to update and expand your website.
Can I expand my website and add additional features?
Yes, your website will be set up so that it is easy to expand. It will be easy for you to add additional pages to the website yourself (your instruction manual will explain how to do this). Adding more complex features and functionality to the website will also be possible, however it will typically involve additional development work which we or another web developer of your choosing can perform.
Can I have another web developer modify my website?
Yes, you are free to have another developer modify your website. We will provide you with FTP access details for uploading/downloading the website files.
What if I want a custom design/layout instead of the standard layouts you provide?
We can accommodate custom design requirements. Contact us and we will provide a quote based on your specific needs.
What if I already have a website?
We can use your existing domain name for your new website. If there are elements of your existing website that you wish to carry over, that should be possible. Just let us know what you want carried over and we will verify that it’s possible.
Can I have videos on my website?
Yes. We recommend hosting the videos on YouTube and then embedding then on the website as this handles all the complexities of format conversion and delivering the different formats required by different devices.
Is payment required in advance?
To begin work on your website we require a deposit of 25%. Upon completion we will issue you with an invoice and the balance will be due in 30 days.
